The Sun is God: A Winter Warmer with JMW Turner

Sat 27 Jan | 10.00-11.30 | Tate Britain

Beat those cold January blues and warm up in the world’s largest collection of JMW Turner paintings. As we wander through Tate Britain’s Clore Gallery, we’ll be immersed by the yellow and orange hues of Turner’s skylines. We will learn why Turner is internationally regarded as ‘the painter of light’. Whether it is the soft light of dawn, the stark brilliance of midday, or the intense vibrancy of sunset, JMW Turner’s light-drenched paintings demonstrate his obsessed experimentation with light and colour. Alongside shockingly loose brushwork, his contemporaries were stunned by this luminous palette, leading John Ruskin to label him ‘the father of modern art’. Join us on this whirlwind Turner tour and understand exactly what Ruskin meant!

A huge thanks from us for helping make last night’s event so special. We are getting such positive feedback from all of the clients – some of the most glowing I’ve ever received. I was really impressed with everything you guys did so please pass on my thanks to your team as well for making it such a success.

My son Charlie and I were taken round the National Gallery by Rose Balston, and in three brief hours, we were inspired to levels of wonder. Rose has the gift of allowing you to discover things in the paintings that you would never have noticed before…I’d strongly recommend you join an Art History UK tour.
