Behind-the-scenes at the RA Schools Show

Saturday 1 July | 2.30pm-4.30pm | Royal Academy

In a rare opportunity to see behind-the-scenes at the iconic Royal Academy,  the doors of the historic studios will be thrown open for an exhibition of works by final year students.  Normally hidden from public view, the schools are home to only 17 students who are accepted annually and who represent some of the hottest artists emerging today.

The rich legacy of the RA Schools includes a long list of some the world's greatest artists including J.M.W. Turner, William Blake, John Everett Millais, Joshua Reynolds and more currently, David Hockney, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Eddie Peake and Catherine Story.  This show is however rooted firmly in the here and now, and on this  tour our expert guide will take you through the studios to talk about the painting, sculpture, video, installation and live events on show, and to give you the inside scoop about the artists who created them.

My son Charlie and I were taken round the National Gallery by Rose Balston, and in three brief hours, we were inspired to levels of wonder. Rose has the gift of allowing you to discover things in the paintings that you would never have noticed before…I’d strongly recommend you join an Art History UK tour.
